Punjab CM Approves 'Roshan Gharana' Solar Energy Initiative

Punjab CM Approves ‘Roshan Gharana’ Solar Initiative

Energy crises is the most prominent hurdle in the face of progress to any country, and Pakistan is no exception. Punjab, being the second-most populous province, is the epicentre of energy consumption, and by extension, energy conservation. The urban population represents 40.7% of Pakistan’s total population, highlighting the need of sustainable energy in order to increase conservation and reduce energy crises.

In light of this predicament, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has approved the ‘Roshan Gharana’ Solar Initiative, which will facilitate the people of Punjab by providing Solar Energy panels to millions of households to reduce electricity costs and promote sustainable energy solutions, offering hope to families grappling with rising living expenses.

What Is Roshan Gharana?

The Roshan Gharana program aims to delivering solar panels to citizens consuming 50 to 500 units of electricity. This initiative marks the first step towards affordable and sustainable energy for the most vulnerable divisions of society.

Key Details of the Roshan Gharana Program

  • Cost Coverage: The government will cover 90% of the solar panel costs, while consumers only need to pay 10%.
  • Flexible Payment Plan: Consumers can opt for easy instalments over five years to pay for the solar panels.
  • Target Audience: The program prioritizes underprivileged and low-income households to maximize its impact.
  • Customized Energy Mix: Each household’s electricity needs will determine the balance between government-provided electricity and solar energy.

Benefits of Roshan Gharana

  • Eco-friendly Energy: This program promotes the use of renewable energy sources, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Cost-effective: Households will experience lower electricity bills, providing relief from inflationary pressures.
  • Long-term Solution: The initiative aims to address ongoing energy challenges within the next five years.
  • Support for the Needy: Roshan Gharana directly benefits the most disadvantaged households, ensuring equity in energy access.

Initial Phase and Future Expansion

Over 100,000 consumers will receive solar panels in the initial phase of the program.

Following the pilot run’s success, the scheme is set to officially launch on August 14, with plans for gradual expansion to benefit a wider population.

The “Roshan Gharana” program is a significant step by the Punjab government to alleviate the economic pressure on households by making solar energy more accessible and affordable. By offering substantial financial support and interest-free loans, the initiative aims to encourage widespread adoption of solar power and contribute to long-term savings on electricity bills. Keep an eye out for updates and eligibility checks to take full advantage of this promising opportunity.
